High Street shops stocking size 13+ shoes – becoming the norm?

With the advent of two new high street shops to our Where to buy Size 13 Shoes list (Debenhams and Size?) it seems that big shoes are becoming increasingly mainstream.

Stores that you can find on the high street that stock big footwear now include:

A common problem with ordering online is that you don’t get a chance to try your shoes on first. This is particularly troublesome for those of us with large feet as the shipping costs to return our self-styled canoes can be astronomical.

Even though you won’t find a large footwear section in every branch of the stores listed above, most will allow in-store delivery/pickup and subsequently returns. This should help everyone try before they buy and ensure they are fully satisfied with their new purchase.

Dealing with life with big feet – part 1

Whether male or female, having big feet can be a real pain! As a guy, it starts to get tough at Size 13+ to find any shoes on the high street. Size 15+ Shoes and it even gets troublesome even on the internet. Women have similar issues and can be plagued with difficulties as well. There is at least some benefit to being able to piggyback onto the men’s collection of shoes, but can’t pretend this is a viable alternative for the fashionable woman!

Before I go on, here at SizeShoe we have done our best to collate a list of online and high street shops stocking larger sized shoes for men and women alike. In this part first part of the article I only really intend to introduce you to the issues – later I’ll discuss good places for both guys and girls to find fashionable shoes at decent prices to suit all occasions.

If there’s one thing that irritates me most it is having to pay a premium for a pair of low-quality glorified school shoes when I’m looking for a reasonably-priced pair of smart business shoes. I’d imagine the more fashion conscious ladies amongst us hate this even more! The next part of the article will highlight shops where quality, price and size are combined into one pleasing package.

Another issue is with brands and styles, and trying to stay atop of the latest trends. While everyone else at work, school or university might be raving about their new pair of brogues or shouting about a pair of espadrilles us big footed individuals can be left in the cold. Part 3 of the article will be looking at how to hunt down an elusive style and viable alternatives to current trends if an exact match cannot be found.

Part 4 of the article will focus on sports. Some sports at elite levels lend themselves to big feet and so are well catered for. Finding yourself a pair of Size 14 rugby boots or basketball shoes shouldn’t be much of an issue. With sports such as football, hockey, or athletics it can be a bit more difficult. Finding a pair of Size 15 running spikes or Size 13 tap shoes can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

The pickings on the high street are slim, with perhaps SportsDirect being the only shop that stocks football boots in ‘man’ sizes of 13-15.
